After six months of language study in Malta, I visited Freiburg, Germany, before returning home.

I really wanted to take my time touring around Europe,
My study visa was about to expire (I could have travelled if I had been outside the EU),
However, I had a lot of luggage!
This time, the flights to Malta were,
(1) All Nippon Airways✈, round trip business class with free award tickets using All Nippon Airways miles.
(2) Lufthansa Airlines✈, Frankfurt to Malta one-way business class with a free award ticket using United Airlines miles
(3) Lufthansa Airlines✈, Malta to Frankfurt one way in economy class with a free award ticket using United Airlines miles.
I had these three tickets.
I was able to book connections on the same day for the outbound flights (1) and (2),
For return flights (1) and (3), it was not possible to book flights that could be connected on the same day.
But that made for an enjoyable journey!
Today I am reporting on that.
The language school I attended had an enrolment ceremony every Monday and a graduation ceremony every Friday.
It was possible to attend the school on a weekly basis. So, in the shortest case, it was possible to study for one week.
Every week, I had to meet and say goodbye to people I had made friends with, and it was hard to say goodbye to people I had made friends with.
In late September/October 2024, I became friends with two lovely ladies from Germany.
One was from Freiburg and the other from Hamburg.
I told them that I was returning via Frankfurt in March and that I was planning to stay somewhere due to a connection, and it would be nice to meet them then! So that's what we decided to do.
After the new year, the three of us talked on the app and found out that our friend in Hamburg had a new job and had to travel abroad. Our friend in Freiburg invited us to stay at her place! She invited me to stay with her.
And "You should make your train reservations early!" wrote.
Early booking is good for trains in Germany
Despite her advice, I only thought, ‘It's not a plane, it's a train, I can just book it about two weeks in advance...’.
Two weeks before departure, I decided it was time to make a reservation, but the price was totally different!
Not just double, but almost triple (+_+)!
The common practice of Japanese train reservations does not apply in Germany.
Also, the German train app is very useful, so if you are planning to use the train in Germany, you should definitely download it.
The person who sat next to me at Freiburg from Frankfurt Airport taught me how to use the app conveniently, but it was a very advanced version, so I tried on the way back but had almost forgotten how to use it💦.
Still, it was very useful to know what line was coming, how many minutes late, and many other things.
Location of Freiburg
It is located in the south-west of Germany. It seems to be close to Strasbourg, France.
According to Wiki, It is a cultural city with a cathedral (construction started in the 13th century - completed in 1513), which is considered a masterpiece of German Gothic architecture, beautiful houses and clean streets.
It's a lovely town and I love it all at once.
I want to live in this city.
The trams are very convenient.

If you walk a little higher, you can see the wonderful Freiburg cityscape.
It appeared to be a place of recreation and relaxation for the public.

There is a lot of green 🌳.
I love nature. I like places with good air quality. But I don't like inconvenient traffic, so this was the perfect place for me.
My friend told me that she usually walks or cycles to Freiburg station instead of taking the tram.
No wonder, with such a nice walking path.
